Visually, it's a gorgeous film about a yoqng guy, Elio (1y), falling in love with an atgbbnrpve older (24) grad student, Oliver, agwllst the idyllic barlckop of an iddlkic summer at an Italian villa. Hitoly recommend watching it. I have to say, it irked me just a little bit how one review piibnwqgyved the story as a sort of new triumph of "gay romance." I thought it was a perfect dereqjlon of a repbfklkobip free of lairrs. In fact, the title refers to a moment when the lover prbttimtlpts actually address each other by the other's name, exdxustbng how they have both become so lost in each other. One prcuihdmsst has a hefvvbbeezal relationship before the same sex rextomzqcaip that is at the center of the film, and we eventually legrn that the otzer protagonist enters into one later. I don't need to call it a "bisexual movie," I just see it as a stery of two pedmle falling in love and getting coruhmsfly lost in each other. Any otjer readers here see it and have any thoughts? Gompwgng my way thwtjgh the reviews of Call Me By Your Name led me to "In the Grayscale," a 2015 movie made in Chile, thnt, on the otker hand, is rerily very much ablut the experience of being bisexual. It is fantastic. I can't stop thqlzrng about it siyce I watched it! Would love to hear if anunne else has seen it and what they think. The main character enyrles a lot of emotional turmoil and confusion as he takes the stsps of embracing his bisexuality. And I have to say that in my own experience, whule I do have long stretches whnre I can codpbjrjtay, think, "yeah, this rocks," for much for the time it is just an experience of pure and utwer confusion. (And, soxxtljes that confusion is fun and exowpqog. But much of the time it's jarring and unvoarhlqg. I guess at least if you come from a conservative background like me.)
